In India’s IT sector, women make up more than a third of the workforce in NSE-listed firms, yet sustaining their careers over the long term remains a challenge. Even for companies with strong return-to-work rates after maternity leave, the shift back to office-based work and other structural changes can put retention at risk.
Wipro, which has been embedding gender equity goals across its global operations for over 15 years, has seen steady improvements in representation at all levels. But recent trends reveal that progress can be fragile. One of its most notable responses is the WoW Mom program, a structured support system for women during and after maternity leave. It aims to smooth the transition back to work, reduce voluntary attrition, and maintain career momentum. This case study looks at how Wipro’s mix of policy, culture change, and leadership engagement is helping address one of the most sensitive pressure points in women’s career journeys, and what it tells us about the future of retention in the corporate sector.
